Thank you to everyone who attended our first whole school performance in nearly 3 years!! Today the children were excited to share with their grown-ups what they’ve been learning about harvest and shared their thank yous to all involved in the production of the food we eat. They shared poems and artwork and sang their favourite Harvest songs at the top of their voices. These can be seen on the PowerPoint below. We are also overwhelmed by the generosity, yet again, of our families who kindly donated so many items for us to share with the Food Shed in Stevenage. We know that these donations will be gratefully received by families facing hard times in our community. Thank you again.
Kai at 1 week old4 weeks old – ready for his daily weigh inOn his first day at school April 2022
Important facts about Kai
Kai was born on January 6th 2022 in Grimsby. He has two brothers (Ernie and Barney) and two sisters (Nala and Darcy). His dad is Cooper and he is a golden Cockapoo. His mum is called Willow and she is a black and white Cavapoo. This makes Kai a Cocka-cava-poo!
Kai comes in to school every morning with Miss Potter (who is his registered owner) with a special harness and seat belt, after he has had his morning walk at his local park and breakfast. During the day he has a comfy pen with his basket and toys in Mrs. Hand’s office.
He is having his basic puppy training right now (he has passed his Dogs Trust puppy course over the summer holiday) and when he is older he will have his special therapy training to help Graveley to feel like an even better environment to grow up in and learn in.
Below is the leaflet Pupil Parliament made, our school dog policy, the information we sent out to all our pupils, parents and staff before we decided on getting a school dog and a letter the Pupil Parliament sent to Friends of Graveley asking for funding for training.
He has already brightened up the place, especially in the morning when the school adults arrive – he loves to jiggle up and get lots of fuss from everyone as well as welcoming all the pupils and parents.
What a perfect morning for a Sports Day! Thank you so much to everyone who came along to cheer on and support our sports stars today. Well done to all the children for taking part with big smiles on their faces and great sporting spirit. And… Congratulations to Green Emerald for winning the Sports Day Cup 2022!
A huge congratulations to all of our Class 4 footballers, but especially our ‘A’ Team – Will, Matthew, Hayden, Harry, Ellie, Georgia, Nancy and Sophia who were entered into the Herts School Games as Stevenage’s ‘D’ Team! They came 3rd! We’re so proud of you!
An enormous thank you to our very generous families for your donations to the Stevenage Food Shed’s Christmas ‘Toy Shed’ campaign. We’ve been overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. After what has been such a difficult time for so many families, it has really warmed our hearts to see such kindness from our school community – thank you!
This week pupils in Years 5 and 6 have taken part in the Stevenage Sporting Futures Virtual Football competition, undertaking a series of skills based activities. Our results have been sent off and will now be compared to those from other schools across the town, to find the winning team!
School was full of onesies and PJs today, as everyone took the opportunity to dress down for a donation! Class One joined in with Joe Wickes virtual PE lesson and school puddings today had a Pudsey twist. We’ve raised £108, so far and the collection bucket will be out again at pick-ups if you’ve not yet had the chance to donate!
The children have spent this week learning the reasons why we mark remembrance each year. Pupils in Class 4 have made this beautiful display of poppies for the school gate. The rest of the school can’t wait to see the assembly they’re recorded for us on Wednesday. A big thank you to Miss Potter and her Dad for painstakingly tying all the poppies and wreaths to the gate.
Not all ballot papers take quite so long to count! Pupils at school took to the polls today, voting for their preferred candidate in the Graveley Pupil Parliament elections. The results were close but this year’s successful MPs are:
Class 1 – Lily-Grace and Olivia
Year 2 – Eliot
Year 3 – Isla
Year 4 – Charlie
Year 5 – Matthew
Year 6 – Nancy
Congratulations everyone! Mrs Hand is looking forward to working with them all this year.
Today we held the very first intra-house cross country competition. All children in years 2-6 took part, completing either 2.5 or 5 laps of the entire school site. We’re so proud of their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The winners from each year group were:
