Early Years

At Graveley, we strive to create a safe and happy environment, which inspires, challenges and supports pupils to achieve their potential. The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage provides the basis for our curriculum and approach.

We use the four guiding principles to shape our practice:

  • every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured;
  • children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships;
  • children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs
  • there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers

Learning and Development is split it 7 areas:

The 7 areas of learning are covered throughout the day in Hedgehogs class, this includes taught sessions and Child Initiated Learning (CIL). The areas are specifically taught using the following:

Personal, Social and Emotional– Jigsaw PSHE
Physical Development– Primary PE Planning
Communication and Language– The Literacy tree, Jigsaw PSHE
Literacy– The Literacy Tree
Maths– White Rose
Understanding the World– Jigsaw PSHE, Cornerstone
Expressive Art and Design– Charanga, Cornerstone, Primary PE Planning
