Squirrels

Welcome to Squirrels Class!

Welcome to Squirrels, a class of year 2 pupils taught by Mrs Adams and supported by Mrs London and Ms White. In Squirrels our learning journey continues as we build strong foundations for the years ahead. We focus on developing fundamental skills, knowledge and confidence that children need to become independent, enthusiastic and resilient learners.

Alongside our academic learning, we place great importance on the everyday skills that help us to grow together – learning how to build friendships, work as a team, solve problems, show kindness and care for others, and become increasingly independent.

Our school values are woven into everything we do, helping us to make positive choices and reflect on how we can live and learn together. We are proud to nurture every child as an individual, creating a caring and supportive environment where everyone feels that they belong.

We are excited for all that Year 2 has in store and look forward to watching the children learn, grow and flourish together.

Curriculum Overview

The termly overview below gives you more information on what the children will be learning this term. As the year progresses termly updates will be added.

The children’s learning will be shared regularly on Class Dojo for you to enjoy and discuss with your children at home.

Recommended Reading

Please find the recommended reading lists from ‘The School Reading List’ here  (year 1) and  here (year 2). The website includes some brilliant books which are age appropriate with some for new authors and other stories you’ll remember from your own childhood.  There will be something for everyone!

Reading in Key Stage 1 is exciting!  The vast majority of children will be reading by the end of the year and the change is always incredible.  At this age we want to foster a love of reading and so it is important that they are enjoying the sessions with you.  Remember that they don’t have to read every word – enjoy the books together.
